About ten months ago one of my former students asked me to help him navigate the admission process to dental school, hoping to gain insight from me about the best schools, what dental admission committees might be looking for, essay topics, etc. When I reviewed his academic record at the outset, I pointed out that, first and foremost, he needed to improve his grade point average, particularly in his science courses. His 3.0 GPA, with some average to poor grades in key science courses, would not meet the admission standards of most dental schools. He understood that and promised to work more diligently.
